The journeyman electrician exam tests NEC codebook navigation, electrical math, and safe installation knowledge. Most states use an open-book format administered by PSI or Pearson VUE. 2026 NEC Updates
The 2026 NEC moved load calculation rules from Article 220 to the new Article 120, reduced the lighting load factor from 3 VA to 2 VA per square foot for LED-dominant installations, updated continuous-load wording, added EVSE demand factors for existing dwellings, and introduced Power Control Systems rules.
